Clarity and Confidence in Equestrian Competition

In modern equestrian sport, performance is about far more than talent and training.

It is also about trust—trust in the products we use, the standards we uphold, and the decisions we make every day for our horses. For riders, trainers, and owners competing under strict regulations, peace of mind is not a luxury. It is essential.

At Hestevard Products, clarity and confidence are at the heart of everything we do.

What Does FFPS TESTED Really Mean?

The FFPS TESTED symbol is more than a logo. The FFPS emblem, when affixed to a product, clearly indicates that the product has been tested for the presence of naturally occurring prohibited substances.

This independent certification confirms that the product has been analysed in one of the world’s premium, internationally trusted drug surveillance laboratories before being released to the market. Substances screened include those such as caffeine and morphine, which are strictly prohibited in competition horses.

FFPS – Going Beyond Standard Testing Models With our FFPS system (Free From Prohibited Substances), we deliberately go one step further:

👉 Every single batch is tested—not just the raw materials.

This level of batch-by-batch testing exceeds the scope of many other testing models and provides a significantly higher level of assurance when it comes to prohibited substances. By testing each individual production batch, the risks associated with natural variability in raw materials or accidental cross-contamination are reduced to an absolute minimum.

True transparency and meaningful risk reduction matter.

Understanding Naturally Occurring Prohibited Substances

A Naturally Occurring Prohibited Substance is not always the result of deliberate inclusion.
In some cases, these substances can be:

  • Naturally present within certain raw materials
  • Accidentally introduced through cross-contamination, for example during bulk transport or handling

While prohibited for use in competition horses, these substances can appear unintentionally—making independent testing and rigorous quality control essential.

Our manufacturing partners operate to the highest standards of food safety management in accordance with internationally recognised quality standards.

This helps ensure:

  • Strict ingredient sourcing and traceability
  • Comprehensive quality assurance throughout production
  • Products you can trust in both everyday use and competition environments

Prohibited Substances Testing Statement – Hestevard Products

Hestevard approach to prohibited substance testing

Every batch of Hestevard product is tested for prohibited substances using the same laboratories as those recommended by the recognised BETA scheme for prohibited substances. Each batch is also supported by a certificate of analysis prior to release, confirming that testing has been completed and the product meets the required standards.

Rationale
While the BETA framework for prohibited substances provides a strong framework for reducing the risk of contamination, it is ultimately based on process controls and risk management rather than direct verification of each individual batch. Contamination with naturally occurring prohibited substances can be variable, and in a zero‑tolerance sporting environment, relying solely on sampling and HACCP-based controls cannot guarantee that every unit is free from prohibited substances.

For this reason, although Hestevard products are manufactured in facilities operating to the standards expected within the BETA scheme and fully adhere to HACCP principles for raw material sourcing and production, we take an additional step: every finished batch is tested prior to release.

This approach provides an added layer of reassurance. By verifying each batch directly, we reduce the risk of undetected contamination, improve traceability, and give clients greater confidence in both product consistency and compliance.

In practice, this means combining robust manufacturing controls with batch-level testing, delivering the highest possible level of assurance for every end user.

Riders and trainers choose Hestevard for a complete package of nutritional and health support. To support this and remain at the forefront of product excellence, Hestevard has chosen to invest in its own internal batch-testing protocols, rather than duplicating the processes already implemented within its manufacturing network.

Compete With Confidence

Equestrian sport demands precision, responsibility, and transparency. By choosing FFPS TESTED products, riders and owners can focus fully on training and competition—confident that every possible step has been taken to minimise the risk of prohibited substances.
